AI: What’s Next for Fiserv After Alliance with Microsoft?
Fiserv has announced a strategic collaboration with Microsoft to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence across its development platforms and global operations.
The initiative aims to boost internal productivity and create more sophisticated AI-driven solutions for the financial institutions and businesses the company serves.
Through this expanded partnership, Fiserv will deploy Microsoft 365 Copilot to its entire workforce to assist with day-to-day productivity and decision-making tasks.
The company is also deepening its use of Microsoft Foundry which is an Azure-powered platform designed for the secure management and deployment of AI applications.
Guy Chiarello, Vice Chairman, Fiserv, says: “By embedding AI inside our workforce and development platforms, we’re not simply improving how we operate; we’re transforming how Fiserv delivers the next generation of innovation for our clients.
“This collaboration with Microsoft enables us to bring intelligent capabilities to market with greater speed and scale, unlocking smarter, more differentiated solutions that help our clients grow, compete and lead in today’s rapidly evolving fintech and payments landscape.”
Harnessing generative AI for fintech delivery
The partnership represents a significant step in the wider trend of financial services firms moving beyond simple automation towards more complex generative AI use cases.
Microsoft will provide the infrastructure and tooling required to help Fiserv scale its existing AI efforts.
Karen Del Vescovo, Corporate Vice President of Financial Services at Microsoft, comments: “Together with Fiserv, we’re bringing the power of genAI to transform how financial technology is built and delivered.
“By combining Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Foundry with Fiserv’s deep industry expertise, we’re enabling innovation that will help Fiserv’s workforce achieve new levels of efficiency and productivity.
“This collaboration shows what’s possible when industry leaders come together to redefine the future of work and customer experience.”
Fiserv has already made substantial progress in this area having processed more than 100 billion tokens through the Foundry platform to date.
The firm has also deployed GitHub Copilot to more than 8,000 software engineers to accelerate the delivery of new solutions for its client base.
Strategic context and industry transformation
The move comes at a time of significant activity for the company, including its recent work on the Fiserv and EU Instant Payments transition, where it has been helping European banks modernise legacy systems.
Fiserv is currently ranked fifth in the Top 100 Fintech Companies list and continues to scale its Clover platform internationally.
By further embedding AI the firm aims to improve its fraud detection and risk management capabilities which are critical as payment rails move towards real-time settlement.
The collaboration with Microsoft is expected to streamline back-end processes and unlock new revenue opportunities through more personalised merchant engagement.
Moving towards agentic intelligence
The shift from simple machine learning to what the company calls agentic intelligence marks a new phase in its technology strategy.
Fiserv already utilises AI for smarter decision-making and higher authorisation rates for its merchant clients globally.
The ongoing deployment of generative AI is designed to improve compliance and developer productivity while maintaining high standards of data security.
As the fintech landscape becomes increasingly competitive, the ability to deploy AI-powered products at scale will likely determine market leadership.
This partnership positions both firms to lead the development of the next generation of commerce infrastructure and financial tools.
Fiserv remains committed to deploying these technologies responsibly to ensure quality and trust across the global financial ecosystem.
