Is Mollieās New Terminal Making Payments Effortless?

Financial services provider Mollie has announced its Tap feature for UK consumers. The in-person payments solution will be available for UK small and medium sized businesses (SMBs), enabling in-person payments.
The feature will combine a standalone Tap app with a payments terminal, allowing UK merchants to accept payments in-store or on location in a more ācomprehensiveā manner.
The news marks Mollieās UK expansion, building on its two decades of payments experience in Europe. The company currently supports 250,000 businesses in the region.
The launch of Mollieās first proprietary payment terminal is part of a two-pronged approach to support UK SMBs with daily payment management.
Dave Smallwood, UK&I MD of Mollie, notes: āAs part of our ongoing expansion in the UK, weāre deeply committed to helping every business get paid and manage their money effortlessly. That means helping them thrive in both online and in-person environments.ā
The launch is aimed at business professionals, encompassing both self-employed and SMBs. Valuing the time of business-owners, the terminal is designed to be set up in seconds with minimal technological administration.
Digital cards, wallets and QR payments can be accepted from a single terminal. SMBs can best utilise this alongside the longevity aspects of the terminal. Further features centre around mobility, with a full-day battery and integrated 4G/ WiFi connectivity for fast “intuititve” transactions.
Additionally, the device supports digital business tools such as tipping, automated end-of-day reports, transaction history and digital receipts via email. The tool serves as an efficient way to manage payments and daily business operations.
By circumventing complex installation and hardware integration, Mollie is simplifying in-person payments for merchants as part of a dual-pronged approach. In combination with its modern and simple hardware, the company is also integrating its software ecosystem to allow for online and offline payments in a consolidated manner.
Dave continues: “With Tap, we’re giving UK businesses the flexibility to accept payments wherever they are, whether that’s on their phone or with a dedicated terminal.”
Turning smartphones into contactless terminals
Mollie is also introducing its Tap app in tandem with the terminal. SMBs can instantly accept payments on the Tap app with any compatible device, tablet or kiosk. The flexibility of the app provides benefits to merchants who may be starting out or who conduct business on the road.
Allowing for growth, the Tap terminal can be added to a businessās toolkit in order to continue taking payments with minimal setup while still continuing to manage payments through the Mollie platform.
The dual launch is bolstering the physical presence of payments for SMBs in the UK.
Dave explains: “We are excited to see how this expansion will empower British businesses of all sizes.”
Mollie will also be expanding on its broader software ecosystem, strengthening its current offerings that include reconciliation, flexible financing and fraud prevention in the 30+ European and UK markets it is already established in.
The launch is a significant step for the extension of the company’s payment expertise, supporting Mollie’s broader mission to make “money management effortless” in Europe “and beyond”.
